Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan

The Ryan Plan.

Maybe Newt Gingrich was right.

While it may be true that Republicans do not do well in special elections,

That Kathy Hochul was a much better candidate than Jane Corwin,

And that Jack Davis’ fake tea party made a big difference in the race,

The one lesson that Republicans should take away from the New York 26 special election;

The Ryan Medicare plan will be the ObamaCare issue of the 2012 election.

When the special election started, Medicare was a non-issue for most voters in the district.  By the final Siena Research Institute poll, 21 percent said it was their top issue — a remarkable ascendance that shows the potential political peril for Republicans on the issue.

While national Republicans will do everything they can to downplay the role Medicare played in the race, it’s hard to imagine that, without the Ryan budget to bash, Hochul would have gained such traction.

One source close to the Hochul campaign said that once she began attacking Corwin on Medicare, the Republican’s numbers went steadily downward while the Democrat’s numbers soared.

While the Ryan Plan for Medicare may be the best course for our country fiscally,

It is not what the voters want.

Americans prefer their change one small step at a time.

Paul Ryan himself is beginning to recognize that fact.

Dems will use the phrase Medicare Cuts much like the GOP used ObamaCare in 2010,

And return the favor for the shellacking the President’s Party endured in the mid-term election.

And for those idealists who believe that the GOP should bite the bullet

They should do what’s “right” for the country’s future regardless of the consequences.

Think about four more years of Obama with a Democrat controlled House and Senate,

Especially when the President is no longer worried about re-election,

And what they would do to spending, the national debt and our ever expanding deficit.

Now is not the time for Republicans to fall on their sword.

Now is the time to regroup, reorganize and craft a new plan for our nation’s financial future.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. - Ephesians 6: 12-13
