Poll: Voters Say Don’t Cut Medicare, Social Security

Disapproval.
According to a new AP/GfK poll,
There is only one political idea as unpopular as ObamaCare.
And that is Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan’s plan to transform Medicare.
Overall, 70 percent in the poll said Social Security is “extremely” or “very” important to their financial security in retirement, and 72 percent said so for Medicare. Sixty-two percent said that both programs are extremely or very important.
In the poll, 54 percent said it’s possible to balance the budget without cutting spending for Medicare, and 59 percent said the same about Social Security.
Republicans say that something must be done about Medicare to balance the budget,
And they are right.
As Democrats were right when they said something needed to be done to fix the healthcare system.
The problem is that the GOP is repeating the same mistakes Democrats made in 2010;
Trying to solve an enormous problem with one big fix.
Right or wrong, the American people do not like their change in big chunks.
Voters prefer solutions that come one small step at a time.
If Republicans continue on this path to fundamentally reform medicare,
The GOP will suffer from the same tidal wave that swept away Democrats in 2010.
